Legacy 1836 Alamo T-Shirt

The Alamo is best known for the Battle of the Alamo, which took place from February 23 to March 6, 1836, during the Texas Revolution.

During the battle:

• Around 180–250 Texan defenders held the mission against a much larger Mexican army led by Antonio López de Santa Anna.
• Notable defenders included Davy Crockett, James Bowie, and William B. Travis.
• After a 13-day siege, Mexican forces captured the Alamo, killing nearly all of its defenders.

Although the defenders lost the battle, their resistance became a rallying cry—"Remember the Alamo!"—for Texan forces. A few weeks later, Texas won independence from Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto.

Many people think the Alamo was originally built as a military fort, but it actually began as a Spanish Catholic mission in the early 1700s before becoming a fortress.

The Alamo remains an enduring symbol of Texas identity, independence, and frontier history.
